About the "Oil Baron's Ball"

Has Carroll County’s growing economy made it possible for you to think about new opportunities? Have you imagined thoughts of receiving royalty checks, growing a business, or experiencing more glitz, glitter and glamour in your life?

The good news is, you can stop dreaming! The Board of Trustees for Carroll County Arts has created an event to help you live the life of an oil baron or baroness for one special evening.

You are invited to the first annual Oil Barons Ball at Atwood Lake Resort on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Proceeds from the Ball will help Carroll County Arts keep the creative spirit alive in Carroll County.

You will be treated to a delicious dinner with fine wines and beautiful music. There will be a festive atmosphere as you mix, mingle and make new business and social contacts. Think about experiencing the lives of J. R. and Sue Ellen Ewing for this one night! Black-tie attire, cowboy boots and your best 10-gallon hat are encouraged, but not required.

The evening will include silent and live auctions for those who like to acquire fun entertainment packages, special items and great services at a good price. We will also honor Chesapeake Energy for the company’s generous donation to Carroll County Arts.

The Jack Halkides Quintet Will Provide Big-Band Jazzy Swing Music for the Oil Barons Ball

The star-studded Jack Halkides Quintet will play for the Carroll County Arts' Oil Barons Ball! Halkides, an alto-saxophonist, started playing in clubs when he was 12 years old.

"I have been lucky to play for great entertainers like bob Hope, Andy williams, Henry Mancini, buddy Hackett, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Tony Bennett and many others," Halkides says.

"Jack also gave music lessons at Carrollton High School in the late 1950s," according to Shirley Columbo, music chairman for the Oil Barons Ball. "Over the years hundreds of thousands of area residents have dances to his big-band jazzy swing music," Columbo says.

In addition to Halkides, the Quintet includes:

  • Keyboardist Kevin DiSimone -- "Kevin is next to genius -- in all my years in the music business, I've never heard anyone better," Jack says. DiSimone toured with Barry Manilow for several years.
  • Vocalist Hilary James DiSimone daughter of world renown piano great Bob James.
  • Bass player Neal Frey, a regular with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic.
  • Drummer Frank Copacia has played with Jack for twenty years.

Guitarist John Dendak has been booked to play at the Oil Barons ball Patron Party, a pre-dinner gathering for those who make sponsor or patrons level donations to the Carroll Arts Center. John as played guitar since he was sever years old. He has appeared on radio and television and was a member of Delirious Tremors, a traveling group and regional band.
